MC CAIN LACKS COMBAT SAVVY

Over the weekend, John McCain called on Senator Obama to accompany him to Iraq supposedly to "teach him something about Iraq".

This is in the simplest terms nothing more than McCain trying to grandstand on his Military experience. This nonsense is a crass attempt at politicizing a dangerous combat environment for personal benefit.. grabbing for straws at a time his campaign is floundering in special interests and unscrupulous characters.

In truth it shows McCain does not have a significant grasp of the combat experience. The confines of a POW don't really expose you to the operational issues of combat. Mc Cain has never been in a ground operation where he was responsible for management of the chaos associated with enemy forces. If he had an understanding of combat he would never place our troops in the position of having to provide a secure zone for two presidential candidates to meet with a couple of generals. These type of high value targets would encourage what we already know to be a suicidal force to mount an attempt to kill Obama and McCain. If a serious assault was mounted, the cost to our men could be high to protect these two men. Now is there any serious person that thinks it is wise to add these risks to our warriors who are already at risk. And all of this would be for pure political nonsense on the part of a Senator who claims he understands war and combat. Since he spent his war in a prison camp, it might be wise for him to talk to those of us that were in combat with the NVA and Viet Cong.

It seems to me what we need is leadership that has a measured approach to the role of the Commander In Chief, clearly Obama over the time he has been on the national scene continues to show the wisdom and strength to use our armed forces in an intelligent and considered manner. McCain appears to like the Bush, grandstand approach to the use of our warriors.... to date he and Bush are losing two wars and not making our borders any safer.

The interesting part of this game Mc Cain is playing is, these two generals were in hearings in the Senate just a few days ago and it is clear the positions they have taken on Iraq and the Afgan conflicts are more aligned with Senator Obama's position than the McCain position.

OPERATION CHAOS.......Does anyone remember Maxwell Smart and his battle with CHAOS. CHAOS was the bumbling enemy spy agency trying to overthrow the US and arch-enemy of Smart and his spy agency.

Well Rush very much looks like CHAOS.... except it is not funny. As ineffective as it is the very idea that a national radio entertainer would attempt to interfere with elections based on fear and hate is anti-American and goes against the very rights and freedoms our democracy stands for. The idea that freedom of speech is treated with little respect,demonstrates how much a non-combatant like Limbaugh and followers disregard the men and women who have put their lives on-the-line for our freedom. Not the first time he has belittled the service of our warriors.

Maybe this the best he can do to get an audience....or it is possible someone needs to see if Limbaugh is still scamming the local physicians and pharmacies, keeping his head screwed up.

MR. RUSSERT: Then you would disagree with any call for immediate withdrawal of some troops or a specific timetable?

SEN. CLINTON: Well, Tim, I understand the feelings behind that call. I mean, there is a lot of reason when we're back at home to argue about this policy. But at this point in time, I think that would be a mistake. I don't believe we should tie our hands or the hands of the new Iraqi government. Now obviously, as this government has stood up and takes responsibility, there may come a time when it decides for its own internal reasons that we should set such a deadline and withdrawal agenda. But right now I think it would be a mistake.

We don't want to send a signal to the insurgents, to the terrorists that we are going to be out of here at some, you know, date certain. I think that would be like a green light to go ahead and just bide your time. We want to send a message of solidarity. And in addition, I would hope that at this point now, we could get more international support. It is not in anyone's interests, not, you know, the people in this region, in Europe or elsewhere around the world, for the Iraqi government to be brought down before it even can get itself together by violent insurgents. So it's not only U.S. commitment, I think and hope that there should be commitment from others as well.

ETHANOL - Can USDA policy change the metric

Science Daily published the results of a five year switchgrass-ethanol program that demonstrated net energy gains of 540 percent. (Science Daily, Jan 14,2008)

The study stretched across three states measuring the net energy output, greenhouse gas emissions and biomass yields of farmed switchgrass crops. Net energy gains of switchgrass outperform corn-ethanol production. Switchgrass-ethanol greenhouse gas emissions is 94 percent lower than gasoline emissions. Finally the study demonstrated per acre yields of switchgrass-ethanol production is significantly higher than corn-ethanol production meaning less land requirements to produce energy. As a side note switchgrass is much more adaptable to marginal land planting, and in fact is an effective erosion management crop for stressed or marginal land.

The USDA will payout well over a billion dollars to keep about 35 million acres of land in a state of reserve this year. A question for our legislature, does it make sense to modify the program to encourage planting marginal CRP land with cellulose based energy crops like switchgrasses?

Lies and Mis-statements

Does it seem at all strange to anyone that if a citizen lies to a Senator they can be prosecuted and actually spend time in a federal prison. But if a Senator lies to the entire citizenry it is really just a mis-statement.

Why do we put up with this kind of nonsense? Politicians that lie and play the smoke-and-mirror games should be run out of office........ maybe bring back the old tar and feather treatment to run them out of Washington.

War For Oil

John Mc Cain's admission yesterday the Iraq war is about oil is not the first time he has said this. In his senate speech on Iraq he was clear on his belief the war was necessary to keep "the flow of energy" from the middle east.

The sad part is we have a congress and president that believes it is somehow rational to put the lives of our young men and women on the line for oil. Sad, not just because we have better energy alternatives available to us, but sad because our leaders show so little regard for the lives of our warriors. How could they vote to send these men and women into a battle that they knew was simply to protect oil-pipelines and keep companies like Haliburton and multi-national oil companies in business.

This is the year and time for Americans to make a decision on the future of the country. In spite of the blathering nonsense from the spin bitches on cable, it should be clear to every one of us that what we don't need is a continuation of the 30+ years of political experience that has put us into our current situation.

Polls and Statistics

I remember this old saying " There are lies, dammed lies and statistics". I am beginning to think polls fall in the same category and pollsters spin the numbers to get invited on cable television.

Chris Matthews on MSNBC is now on a crusade to link Senator Obama with Adlai Stevenson. By the time this campaign is over MSNBC and CNN pundits will have about as much credibility as FOX, ever balanced pundits.

Mc Clinton Politics and the gas tax

The Mc Cain-Clinton fuel tax reduction plan is a near perfect example of what 30 plus years of experience in Washington buys us.

You have think this through if the cost of gasoline from Exxon is $3.60 a gallon and the federal government drops 18 cents of taxes........ why would you expect Exxon to lower the price if they are selling it at $ 3.60 now. They would be happy to keep the 18 cents these two politicians are prepared to hand over to them.

What the McClinton proposals don't tell you is the real cost. McCain wants to let the highway fund eat-it, which will probably put 300,000 highway workers on unemployment for 6 months to the tune of a couple billion dollars. HRC wants to pay the highway fund with excess profits on the oil companies......get this through congress this year (right) . And if she tries, the oil companies will start to raise prices in anticipation of an excess profit tax. So your $ 3.60 gallon will most likely go to $ 3.78 a gallon.

If ever there is an example of why we don't need......... in fact don't want the 30 years of experience the McClintons are leaning on.
